This event was found by our Event/Education Coordinator, Eric Roscoe. It was held on the UW campus in the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery building off of Orchard St. We were lucky in that our table was right by the door as participants of this event came in. They were greeted by Eric and MAHS President Ryan McVeigh, along with a very beautiful ball python and corn snake. The focus of this event was to get out and let the kids know about the new and upcoming MAHS Kid’s Herpetological Society, and let the community know what we are and what we do as an organization. Our acceptance at the event was spectacular! In 4 hours the table was crowded with no less than 10 people over the entire time of the show! Everyone from parents and kids to presenters from other tables couldn’t get enough of the amazing animals. Eric and Ryan gave kids an opportunity to see and pet real, live snakes, and to ask questions about them. They also talked to the parents about the opportunities for kids to get involved and be able to grow their passion for these commonly misunderstood animals. By the end of the show, everyone in the building was talking about MAHS. It was one of the best events we’ve ever been a part of, and we were asked to come back in September for their next event, by a VERY excited group of staff working that day. We can’t wait to go back and bring even more animals for the kids to see!
